assistant grower (full time, seasonal)
to apply email hannah@brookwoodcommunityfarm.org
The Assistant Grower will assist in all aspects of vegetable production, including greenhouse tasks, field clean-up, planting, cultivation, irrigation, harvesting, and washing and packing. We regularly welcome volunteer groups to the farm, and you may be responsible for leading youth or adult volunteers in field tasks. Additional responsibilities, such as small project management, will be delegated as needed and based on individual abilities. We are a small crew that works fast and accomplishes a lot throughout the season! Depending on the task, staff members will work either in a group or individually.
The ideal candidate has 1+ years of farming (or comparable) experience, interest in developing their farming and leadership skills, and commitment to BCF’s mission and purpose. Candidates must have a clean driving record, driver’s license, and the ability to safely lift and carry 50 lbs. In addition, a positive attitude, strong work ethic, attention to detail, and ability to work efficiently are essential prerequisites that will contribute to staff having a successful season in this role. Reliable transportation is needed and only local applicants will be considered, since we do not provide on-farm housing (unfortunately public transportation options are limited to the farm).
Duration: The position begins mid-August and ends November 25th, with the possibility to rejoin our team in Spring 2026. Our typical schedule is Tuesday through Saturday and hours during the main season are 7 am – 3:45 pm, with a paid 15 minute morning break and unpaid lunch break 12-12:45. Working hours will be reduced to 35 hours/week in October and 30 hours/week in November. Brookwood aims to keep staff schedules 40 hours/week, although there are occasionally opportunities for overtime (especially during peak season). Overtime hours are paid at a rate of time and a half.
Compensation: $20/hour, PTO, free farm produce and pick-your-own crops and flowers, and discounts on bought-in products.
